About Matt Swing

"'So, what is it exactly that you need to know about me? Let's start with the basics:

My name is Matt Swing, I was born and raised in Bartlett, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) and am currently studying Documentary Journalism at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. I am fascinated with photography, videography and design, and I guess that's what I'm going to school for in the first place.

​

But, while I am infatuated by beautiful imagery and cinematography, more of my passion lies in storytelling. I truly believe that story is the most powerful form of communication on planet earth. For instance, I may not remember an economics lecture I sat in last week, but I still remember the plot and characters of some movie I saw once five years ago.

Why?

​

Because story sticks with us. We remember stories because it is innate to our existence as human beings. We are all currently writing a story of our own and we are all characters of different stories going on around us.

​

Story. Is. Important.

​

So, I am a storyteller. Specifically, when it comes to my photography and videography, I am a visual storyteller. That is my main goal in my work. If I can tell a compelling story through my images, I have succeeded.
